involves the careful and specific
application of a highly developed sense of touch in both diagnosis
and treatment of mechanical problems affecting any part of the body.
This, combined with
a detailed understanding of human anatomy, physiology and pathological
processes and a thorough working knowledge of classical clinical
examination methods, allows the osteopath to treat patients by releasing
and promoting the body's self healing mechanisms.
I treat people of all ages, the youngest being two weeks old and the oldest
I use a lot of soft-tissue
massage techniques as I believe that the soft tissues have to be loosened
up before the joints can move efficiently, and any manipulation that we
do is then much easier and more comfortable for the patient.
It is also important as
it helps any changes that are produced to be maintained.
